Chumbe Island Coral Park
Chumbe Island Coral Park Book now
Private island with award-winning marine sanctuary

For a long time fishermen could not get to Chumbe Island. It was too far, big ships were cruising around and then it was used by military as a shooting range. Then in the early 1990's Sybille Riedmiller had a great idea of turning Chumbe Island into Marine Protected Area. Negotiations with government lasted three years but were successful. In 1998 Chumbe Island Coral Park opened its doors to first guests.

Today it is considered as one of the best marine parks in the world, with over 50 awards and one of the most beautiful coral gardens containing 200 species of coral and 400 species of fish. On the beach you might find rare nocturnal coconut crab and in the room you'll find yourself comfortable and relaxed.\

Restaurant serves local cuisine influenced by Arabic, Indian and African flavors. Snorkeling is strongly recommended here - there is a friendly batfish who follows divers, Oscar a big potato grouper that lives in the cave, turtles and lobsters watching your every move. Otherwise you can enjoy the beach, visit lighthouse and walk through the indigenous forests here. Either way you won't be disappointed.
