Sleep in historic colonial surroundings

Planning for The Grand Pacific Hotel began in 1908 when Steamship company from New Zealand recognised Suva as good place for their passengers to relax. Hotel has been designed in contemporary colonial style with high ceilings, big doors and veranda providing shade and cool in tropical climate.

Although hotel opened its doors on 23rd of May 1914 soon it became obvious that 35 rooms were simply not enough for the needs of Union Steamship Company of New Zealand. A night at the hotel costed 15 shillings.

Grand Pacific Hotel remained popular meeting place with its Roof Garden and drawing, writing, Billiard and smoking rooms. In 1960 Hotel was painted pink(!) and further 45 rooms were added along with swimming pool, dining room and Taj Mahal night club.

From 1980’s hotel underwent a gradual decline and finally closed its doors in 1992. At one stage it even served as barracks for the military and no one expected a different fate for it than demolition.

Luckily in 2011 official plans for its restoration were released with overview by Fiji National Trust to make sure building will be restored to its historical glory.

Today, you can soak in the historical colonial surroundings in beautiful luxury setting and 2 restaurants, bars, lounge swimming pool and Spa. Rooms here looks nothing short of historical luxury standard set over a century ago. Royal family including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stayed here too. Today you can sleep in the same room as them. Now this is going to be a stay to remember!
