Castle
Larnach Lodge attracts ghost hunters, garden lovers, and travellers from all over the world – they all come to see unique gardens and castle with amazing views of the Otago Peninsula.
From far away you can imagine that the castle belonged to a king who ordered his army and organised knight tournaments here. In fact, it has been built by Mr. Larnach, who was a banker, as a present for his wife and six children. Sadly nowadays no one is giving castles as presents anymore. That's when the dark part starts: by the time castle was finished Mr. Larnach's, wife died. He tried to remarry but his second wife (former's wife half-sister) also died. Third one was rumoured to have an affair with his oldest son. This seemed to be too much for the owner, who committed suicide in 1898 by shooting himself in the head.
So you can figure out now why there might be some ghosts here... First wife's silhuette was spotted near the bedroom where she died. Owner's ghost is seen on the ground floor, while daughter Kate who died on typhoid haunts the ballroom that was built for her 21st birthday.
Probably you will be happy to hear that you'll be sleeping in a separate lodge here. It features 12 individually decorated rooms, all with panoramic views of the harbor and ghosts wandering in the garden. Yikes!
