The doors are opened to one of the most unique hotels in Sri Lanka. Hotel has been restored perfectly to its former glory taking its inspirations from Galle's architectural heritage. Hotel is a bearer of many awards, including one from UNESCO's for property conservational efforts.
Building of this hotel served as the gem merchants mansion, post office, a bakery, cricket pitch and even RAF barracks. It originates in 18th Century as a Dutch mansion, later refashioned by Maccan Markars - a famous family of gem merchants who installed breathtaking entrance arch. Finally in 2003 building was rescued and reopened as unusual place to stay.
Rooms are comfortable and very distinct - some of them display antique plates and books, while the Grand Apartments was designed by the Count de Mauny-Talvand - "a man of uncertain roots and morals, but undoubted taste, creativity and passion".
Hotel's restaurant takes pride in the freshness of its products including, vegetables, lobsters and jumbo prawns. Menu is taking inspiration from the famous Spice Route and chefs promise to take you on a culinary journey.
Galle has interesting past and present is no less fascinating. The fort is a meeting place to many artists, poets, photographers, writers and designers. And a perfect place to anyone interested in history.
Did we mention cool and blue swimming pool in the hotel's courtyard? Perfect base for exploring the area.
