Visit the oldest pub in England

Way back in 1135, The Olde Bell opened its doors as a cozy guest house for folks visiting the nearby Benedictine Priory. For many years Sanctine Bell rang everytime an important guest visited Ye Olde Bell to let know nearby monastery that VIP's are coming. In fact, it still rings today!

Under the pub there is a secret passege from wine cellar to Priory in the village. In 1688 it was used by Lord Lovelace of Hurley who plotted in the ‘Glorious Revolution’ which resulted in exiling Catholic James II and placing new king on throne.

In 1890 The Olde Bell turned into famous must-stop place on the way to London from Oxford, thanks to the innkeeper who was serving cherry glasses to all churchgoers.

During World War Two, The Olde Bell hosted big names like Winston Churchill. It even turned into a secret spy base! The barns? They became a bullet factory, powered by the amazing ladies of Hurley.

Hollywood stars like Elizabeth Taylor and Cary Grant. Even Dustin Hoffman also visited pub in the meantime.

In 2009, The Olde Bell got a gold star for being the Best Restaurant. Even though The Olde Bell had many owners over the last 880 years, it always stuck to being friendly and welcoming, just like St. Benedict wanted.

We hope this bell will keep ringing forever.
