Stay in the oldest Hotel in Europe

Historic

Zum Roten Bären (Red Bear) claims its fame as Germany's oldest inn, with roots tracing back to when knights were still walking down the streets. Chronicler Wilhelm Fladt's backs this claim, making this inn Freiburg's oldest senior citizen.

Building foundations are dated around 1120, but Inn was founded 200 years later in 1311 by Hanmann Bienger. Since then over 50 innkeepers took care of the place. In 2017 Christoph Glück and Christian Böhler bought the place with mission to restore Red Bear to its former glory. 25 rooms were redecorated along with common areas to make your time-travelling stay even more comfortable.

Inside you will find restaurant named Golden Bear, where you can enjoy your meal surrounded by medieval walls, bar, room service and garden.

Stay here for time-travelling experience and interiors decorated with historical photos and portraits of previous owners.
